Introducing Hannah Hoskins!

“I first went to Honduras as a Research Assistant at the end of my first year of university. I loved being in the forest, meeting all the brilliant scientists and learning hands-on ecological survey techniques. I was then lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel to Pacaya Samira, Peru a year later where once again I had a fantastic experience – this time getting to live on a boat in the middle of the Amazon!

Upon completing my undergrad I jumped at the chance to travel to Calakmul, Mexico to start my first ever real field staff position. It was an amazing summer, not only being back in a forest but this time one scattered with unbelievable Mayan ruins.

Following on from this I made the move to the wilds of Lincolnshire and worked with the team at Opwall HQ for a year. At the end of this period I headed to Cuba to work on the marine project there.

Right now I am in the second half of my MSc in Conservation & Biodiversity and about to travel to Spain for my research project. When I finish my MSc I will be going to Belfast to complete my PhD, for which I’ll be studying endangered mammal populations in Honduras.

Throughout my time with Opwall I have gone birding in a cloud forest, gone diving in the Caribbean, held a caiman, climbed ancient ruins and I can’t believe how lucky I have been! Thanks Opwall! ”
